Works for Me Wednesday - the wisdom of moms

One of the things I have discovered with blogging is that there is a wealth of information available when you network with other moms. I have learned amazing coupon skills and gained knowledge about budgeting. I have found ways to earn money and points that I would never have known about otherwise. Thanks, Moms!
This week, I'd like to call upon some of that wisdom. I need to know about experiences any of you may have had with thyroid issues. I'm facing some things right now and will be making a decision about surgery, and I want to hear your experiences. I've heard it said that if you have to have something go wrong in your body, the thyroid is the easiest to fix. However, when it's in YOUR body, it's hardly ever a minor thing!! Please share, and help me make an informed decision. Tell me all about your thyroid experiences - whether or not they involved surgery. I'll share more details if you'd like - let me know - but I'd really appreciate your wisdom in this.

I have thyroid issues, mom has thyroid issues, aunt has thyroid issues. It runs in our family. My mom had hers removed last year and was glad she did. Mine is doing well and being controlled with levothyroxine. Good luck with what ever you decide.

I have Grave's disease. I had to take radioactive iodine to "dissolve" my thyriod and am now on daily thyroid replacement pills. I think the worst part is remembering to take it everyday. My thyriod levels are always off because of it. I would have died had I not had the treatment so taking pills in retrospect is really no biggy. Email me if you have any other questions!

I also have Graves Disease and did the radioactive iodine treatment. Like the former poster said, the hardest part is remembering to take the pill every day. Not that difficult, though. The radioactive part is a challenge initially because it really limits your exposure to others for a week or two, but other than that it was painless. Yes, keeping your levels right with the pills can be a problem but as long as you see your endocrinologist and have regular bloodwork done, they are usually able to level things out eventually. Even through 2 pregnancies, I've been able to keep things on a fairly even keel.
